Poster Presenter Information
The poster session will be held on Thursday August 19, from 4:00 PM MDT to 6:00 PM MDT. The poster session will be administered using gather.town. A map of the gather.town conference can be found on the website schedule page. The map includes a list of posters, authors, and titles and where they can be found in gather.town.
Click on the link provided to access the gather.town map.

Presenters and attendees will join a 2D world with 8-bit graphics. Here they will control an avatar that they can navigate around the map. As they approach other people and certain objects, their computer camera and microphone will activate and allow them to interact with others. They may customize their avatar or character and guide the character through the conference map. The initial room in which your character will start is the poster presentation room. There are other rooms including breakout rooms, a conference center with a link to the zoom speaker sessions and some foyers. As your character walks in front of posters or near tables, they will enter a private space where all other avatars that are in that shared space will be visible and audible.
To interact with a poster, i.e., view it (panning, zooming, pointing are options), walk up to the poster and press “x”. While you are viewing the poster, you will be able to interact with the presenter and anyone else who is viewing the poster at the same time.
Once you interact with the image, you and anyone else who is interacting with the image may use the “Presenter Mode” tool on the right-hand side to click and indicate a specific area of the poster. Everyone who is viewing the poster will see the location that is indicated. The indicator will appear as a small colored circle that will disappear after a few seconds.
Gather.town provides a “Gather 101” page to help. While gather.town will run from within an internet browser, I recommend using the desktop client as it is my experience that it runs smoother and requires less computer resources.
