Welcome to the CU Neurophotonics Website
The brain represents one of the great frontiers in science. To date, the complexity has inhibited the formation of a theoretical framework reflecting brain function. Further advances in neuroscience will rely on technologies that allow studies of the interactions of neurons, spanning individual-individual interactions to emergent or large group level interactions. The CU Neurophotonics research center is a cross-campus, interdisciplinary center involving physicists, engineers, and neuroscientists working on optical and electrical technologies using the latest tools in multiphoton microscopy, electrowetting optics, and miniature optical designs to perform deep tissue imaging and neuromodulation in behaving animals. These technologies provide capabilities for novel studies in the central and peripheral nervous system.
